105 Years Young

Steinhauser Inc. (Newport, Ky.) has come a long way in its 105-year history in the printing industry. Although it was founded by Albert Steinhauser in 1905 as a commercial printing operation, it has evolved into a business that, today, focuses solely on labels and packaging.

Paring down the category winners to select the Best of Show winner is quite a chore. This year, Mansfield, Mass.-based Hub Folding Box Company's Stoli Gold PET VAP nosed out South Australia-based Collotype Labels' offset-printed Trilogy wine label.

Judging for the 24th annual packagePRINTING Excellence Awards competition was held in late June at the offices of North American Publishing Company (NAPCO) in downtown Philadelphia. This year's judges—Jim Flynn, Gallus; Joe Hamway, Mark Andy; and Bob Waddington, UVitec Printing Ink—did a fantastic job again this year. The competition resulted in a total of 72 awards, including 25 first place awards and the ultimate prize, Best of Show honors.

Novel Printing Concept for Sustainable Packaging

With recent advances in waterborne energy curing resin technology, an elec
tron beam (EB) curing gravure printing process has been developed which allows elimination of VOC emissions and reduces energy consumption while providing outstanding aesthetics, chemical, physical, and functional properties.

Show Time! — Polischuk

The Fall trade show season begins, as usual, early in September. This year, it is being kicked off by Labelexpo Americas 2010 being held in Rosemont, Ill. at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center. Following close on the heels of Labelexpo, Graph Expo takes center stage in early October and then just three weeks later, Pack Expo/CPP Expo will be front and center. Both of these shows will be held at Chicago's McCormick Place.
