Clemson to Offer Digital Proofing for Flexo Seminar
April 18, 2008

CLEMSON, S.C.—Last year the Clemson Department of Graphic Communications formed a committee of industry leaders to produce a new event in its Seminar Series, “Digital Proofing for Flexography.” The program was so popular that the program is scheduled to return this May 13-16 in twin sessions. The two sessions ensure that the numbers stay small, below 30, to ensure hands-on experience. The seminar is co-sponsored for the second year by the Foundation of Flexographic Technical Association (FFTA). Presenting Experts Some of those committee members that helped shape this program, recognized experts in the field of proofing, have stayed on as key presenters for the

Presentation is everything—up to a point and down to a dot. WITH RESPECT TO proofing, package printers must be prepared to be all things to all customers, or nearly so, and still be able to assure their customers that the proof they receive will reproduce accurately and consistently on both plates and press. To accomplish this, the printer will choose the technology or technologies that will provide him the tools to keep that promise. Few would argue that packagers have special proofing needs. These include: • Ability to proof on a wide range of packaging substrates, whether coated or uncoated, glossy or flat,

Dunwoody College of Technology proves that matching a color proof to the press isn't purely academic. LAST FALL, DUNWOODY College of Technology instructor Pete Rivard and his students set out on a mission. Armed with a new color halftone proofer, spectrophotometers, and color management (CM) software Rivard set out to prove just how close a proof can match a press—in this case a narrow-web flexo press, running UV inks on pressure-sensitive label and paper stocks. Rivard's experiment is meaningful for a number of reasons. First, he showed that yes, it is possible to define a set of conditions under which a proof can match
