The CIPPI awards is the only international awards program for printer production and efficiency. Each year the CIPPI award is given to a first and second place winner in each of three categories: • Most innovative use of process automation technology in an implementation. • Best cost/benefit realization as a result of process automation implementation. • Biggest improvement in efficiency and customer responsiveness as a
This year’s Smart Label Summit Europe, taking place November 15-16 at the Hotel Okura in Amsterdam, will focus on the combined advances in Smart and RFID label technology. The summit, hosted by the organizers of Labelexpo Europe, is designed to help label converters learn about the size of the market and growth forecasts, as well as provide practical advice on how to adopt this technology. Leading experts from some of the world’s top consumer brands will be taking center stage in Amsterdam later this month to share their expertise with the international delegation. The retail, healthcare, IT, transport, and FMCG sectors are all represented on
Package printers have their hands full. While their focus is directed toward meeting the needs of their customers, they must accomplish this by spending their money wisely and increasing profits in their own operations. In the past few years, business production software has come to the rescue of package printers faced with the increasing need to run a lean business, while maintaining high-quality standards. Display Pack of Grand Rapids, Mich., was among those looking for a better way to streamline processes and exchange information. Its custom-developed business management system lacked strong estimation and business integration, and the means to provide financial information. Display Pack
Digital printing is making its presence felt in the package-printing arena. It’s no longer a promising technology for the next generation—it’s here now, and appears to have broken through the critical mass for emerging mainstream acceptance. For the time being, it has found its place in short-run production. Many times it is used to off-load short-run print jobs from traditional presses to make them more profitable. However, digital printing is still in the very early stages of evolution and as such, there still some barriers that need to be addressed, such as relatively high cost of entry and high cost of consumables. In

Soft proofing technology can do the job, but its success depends largely on good discipline and the printer-client relationship. "SOFT" PROOFING GOES by several names—monitor, virtual, online—and comes in an array of "flavors." No matter what you call it, however, the ultimate goal is as straightforward as it is universal: shrink production cycles, eliminate rework, reduce costs, and move everything faster. Unlike traditional hardcopy proofing, in which handling and transmission of the physical proof increases both cycle time and the potential for error, soft proofing depends on workflows in which color-accurate proofs can be viewed on calibrated computer monitors under controlled lighting conditions.
