CCL Industries has signed a binding agreement to acquire the Office & Consumer Products and Designed & Engineered Solutions businesses of Avery Dennison on a debt-free basis for $500 million cash subject to customary closing adjustments. A syndicate of banks has committed to provide debt financing to close the transaction.
Through its partnership with Avery Dennison Retail Branding and Information Solutions (RBIS) division, WGSN will provide Avery Dennison customers with more powerful insights into the trends, integrated branding solutions and technological innovations shaping the rapidly-changing retail and apparel industry.
Four of TLMI's member company facilities have achieved L.I.F.E. (Label Initiative for the Environment) Certifications. The program’s newly certified plants include Sussex, WI-based Lauterbach Group; Avery Dennison’s Peachtree City, GA division; and Green Bay Packaging’s Winchester, VA and Green Bay, WI facilities. The L.I.F.E. program was developed in order to assist TLMI members to find cost-effective ways to reduce their companies’ environmental footprint.

Minneapolis-based Ritrama and Avery Dennison’s Fort Wayne, IN division have recently been awarded L.I.F.E. (Label Initiative for the Environment) certification from TLMI. “With 36 TLMI member companies now L.I.F.E. certified and more in the application process, we will surpass 40 L.I.F.E. certified companies in 2013 and that is an outstanding achievement,” said Frank Sablone, TLMI president.
A new global Designer Showcase Website has been launched by the Label and Packaging Materials division of Avery Dennison, that features insights, examples and personal stories about packaging and design from some of the world’s leading designers and design school students. Each month a different designer, design firm and set of students will be showcased on the site.
This year’s AWA Label Release Liner Industry Seminar, held in Chicago, did not disappoint. A full program of papers, plus a lively Q&A session and a tabletop exhibition, made the day a real forum for information exchange among industry participants, who came from many corners of the world and many levels of the label release liner value chain.
The definitive agreement between Avery Dennison and 3M Company has been terminated, where 3M would have purchased Avery Dennison’s Office and Consumer Products business. Avery Dennison will continue to pursue a divestiture of the Office and Consumer Products business.
At Labelexpo Americas 2012, a steady parade of show attendees were treated to a wide array of new products and technology demonstrations. A major highlight of the show, the Label Industry Global Awards 2012, took place on Tuesday, Sept. 11 at the Aragon Ballroom in Chicago. Steve Lee, vice president of technology at RotoMetrics, was honored with the prestigious R Stanton Avery Lifetime Achievement Award.
