HEBRON, Ky.—Zumbiel Packaging recently won the Gold and Eco awards in the Paperboard Packaging Council’s (PPC) National Paperboard Packaging competition in Atlanta. Twenty-six PPC members submitted 87 entries in the 66th annual competition.

SPRINGFIELD, Mass.—This year's inaugural National Paperboard Packaging Week (to be held April 20–26) focuses on the inherent sustainability of paperboard packaging. Coinciding with the start of spring, the winners of the Heidelberg Eco Printing Award were honored at a small ceremony at the Print Media Academy in Heidelberg. Dick Kouwenhoven, owner of Hemlock Printers, Canada, was presented with the environmental award for the most sustainable print shop, which comes with a prize fund of 30,000 Euro. Kazuhisa Yoshida, owner of Yoshida Printing in Japan, accepted the award for most innovative stand-alone solution and a check for 20,000 Euro.

PHILADELPHIA—A gathering of major equipment and materials companies that are leading development efforts for sustainable packaging for food and consumer products will take place in conjunction with Earth Day 2009 celebrations, Wednesday, April 22. Hosting the daylong converting demonstrations for North American packaging converters and product marketers are specialty materials company Rohm and Haas, along with Nordmeccanica NA, a manufacturer of coating and laminating equipment. Demonstrations will take place at Nordmeccanica’s Long Island facility.
