Zumbiel Boosts Automation of Paperboard Packaging Workflow With Investment
Zumbiel Packaging, a provider of innovative paperboard packaging solutions since 1843, is pleased to announce their recent acquisition of the cutting-edge HP PageWide T470S Press. This strategic investment not only enhances Zumbiel Packaging's folding carton production capabilities but also represents the dawn of a new era in automated production workflows for the paperboard packaging sector.
Zumbiel Packaging, North America’s largest producer of digitally printed folding cartons, has established itself as an industry innovator through its forward-thinking approach to adopting digital print for folding carton production. Recognizing the growing demand for faster turnaround and customization, Zumbiel has embraced digital printing technologies to revolutionize the traditional folding carton manufacturing process. True to form, Zumbiel’s high speed T470S Press is configured unlike anything else in the folding carton industry. The massive new digital production line, which measures over 180 feet in length, features automated roll handling and splicing, water-based expanded gamut inks, inline coatings, inline post-print sheeting and downstream material handling logistics which will enable Zumbiel Packaging to feed their stable of large format (145 cm) sheet-fed die-cutters with unmatched speed, efficiency and flexibility.
According to Ed Zumbiel, the robust HP PageWide T470S Press perfectly complements their mega-volume beverage multipack production model and increases efficiency throughout their operations by providing greater order flexibility, more production agility, and faster speed to market with exceptional print quality. The high-speed, high-throughput (approximately 1,000,000 square feet per eight-hour shift) inkjet press line will also minimize production waste and support versioned and variable graphics, thereby empowering brands to stand out in a highly crowded and competitive marketplace.
Zumbiel has embraced digital printing technology, not only for its versatility and high-quality output but also for the significant sustainability benefits it offers. Digital print eliminates the need for printing plates and minimizes setup or make-ready processes, reducing material waste significantly. HP’s true water-based inks are 100% free of UV reactive chemistries and contain no hazardous air pollutants1 for a safe and comfortable work environment, while reducing carbon footprint with recyclable prints that meet PTS standard2. The innovative technology also includes an automatic clean up procedure for print heads to reduce water usage. Additionally, digital printing processes require less energy compared to conventional printing methods, contributing to overall energy conservation and environmental preservation. Through its commitment to sustainable practices, Zumbiel Packaging continues to lead the way in promoting environmentally responsible packaging solutions.
"We are incredibly excited that Zumbiel Packaging has chosen to invest in HP and our HP PageWide T470S Press to further transform folding carton production,” said Annette Friskopp, Global Head and General Manager, HP PageWide Industrial. “Their commitment to innovation and sustainability aligns with our vision for the future of packaging. Together, we will push boundaries, drive industry transformation, and deliver exceptional printing capabilities to meet the evolving needs of the market."
With the acquisition of the HP PageWide T470S Press, Zumbiel Packaging remains at the forefront of innovation in the packaging industry. The company's continued dedication to investing in cutting-edge technology ensures that customers will receive the highest standards of quality, service, and sustainability.
