Two kinds of labels stand out on a shelf: those with the pop that comes from smart use of the color black, and those where the label itself is virtually invisible. Going for just those looks, and designed specifically for wine and spirits labeling, are the Vanish and Eclipse Black lines from UPM Raflatac.
Eclipse Black has a midnight hue that appeals to renowned vintners who decide to go with a black label for some of their award-winning wines. It uses a premium ultra-black paper that provides a stark, yet compelling visual palette that opens up imaginative and colorful branding opportunities. According to UPM Raflatac, the face stock is comprised of 30 percent post-consumer waste and uses a recyclable PET liner.
In an entirely opposite direction is Vanish, an ultra-thin stock—about .92 mil—that provides a no-label look. UPM Raflatac believes creative designers will view this all-but-invisible label stock as a canvas, where they can create shapes and imagery previously considered unattainable. Invisible, the company says, never looked so good.
