Toray Plastics (America) has announced that its parent company, Toray Industries, located in Tokyo, has been named one of the Thomson Reuters Top 100 Global Innovators for 2015. According to Thomson Reuters, its Top 100 Global Innovators list showcases the world's 100 most innovative organizations, which have outperformed other global companies in terms of creating jobs and wealth. To identify the top 100 companies, Thomson Reuters uses a methodology that analyzes patent and citation data across four criteria: volume, success, globalization, and influence.
Established in 1926, Toray Industries is an integrated chemical industry group that fuses nanotechnology with its operations, using organic synthetic chemistry, polymer chemistry, and biotechnology as its core technologies. Toray's businesses include fiber and textiles, plastics and chemicals, IT-related products, carbon fiber composite materials, pharmaceuticals and medical products, and the environment and engineering, including water treatment. Toray Plastics (America) consists of three divisions and is a technology leader in the markets in which it participates. The Torayfan and Lumirror divisions develop leading-edge polypropylene, polyester, bio-based, and metallized film technology for packaging, graphic, optical, and electronic applications. The Toraypef division produces polyolefin, polypropylene, and polyethylene foams for the automotive and flooring industries. TPA has also been very successful in its pursuit of patents.
"The term 'innovative' is often used very loosely, so it's exciting that Toray Industries has been recognized by Thomson Reuters as one of the world's true innovators," Mike Brandmeier, president and CEO, Toray Plastics (America), said. "We're extremely proud of its achievement and grateful to be a part of such a dynamic, creative, and influential organization."
