TLMI Label Awards: The Industry Shines
Tag and Label Manufacturers Institute (TLMI) converter members showed off some of the best product-decoration offerings the package-printing industry has to offer while competing in TLMI's annual Label Awards contest. This year, 52 printers submitted an impressive 297 entries. From these, 81 total awards were presented, including 52 first-place honors and 27 second-place awards.
There were several companies that stood out with multiple award-winning entries. McDowell Label & Screen Printing and Multi-Color Corporation led the pack. Both of these companies took home a total of seven awards, each earning five first-place awards and two second-place honors. YORK Label® won five awards, including two firsts and three second place awards.
In the international categories, Spain-based Germark, S.A. won five awards, all first place honors. Collotype Labels International Holdings Ltd., based in Australia, also took home five awards, including three first place finishes.
The Best of Show award went to Vaughan, Ontario-based ASL Group–All Stick Label Ltd. for its Dan Aykroyd Sauvignon Blanc flexo-printed wine label. This label won first place in the Wine & Spirits–Flexography/Letterpress Color Process–Prime category, and was printed stochastically to enhance print quality. It used a combination of holographic cold foil, UV flexo inks, gold hot stamping, matte/gloss varnish, and raised varnish silkscreen to produced the award-winner, and used materials supplied by Avery Dennison, Fasson Roll North America; Sun Chemical; Actega WIT; and Kurz.
Milford, N.H.-based Amherst Label, Inc. was another big winner. Its Med-Sked Tabs label followed up a first-place finish in the Flexography Line/Non-Prime category with its selection for the Innovator Award. Med-Sked Tabs uses a series of day/dose tabs to serve as a medical scheduling system. Removal of the appropriate tab serves as an indication that the proper medication has been taken at the appropriate time. The award-winning label system used a combination of materials from International Tape Products, 3 Sigma, Actega WIT, Harper, and Asahi. pP
