Time For Renewal —Polischuck
January is a nice time of the year in many ways. Sure it's cold and dark for much of the time up here in the Northern Hemisphere, but the start of a new year is a time for reflection and renewed hope. And, this year not only ushers in a new year, but a new decade. It brings to close a decade that had some significant upheaval, with 9/11 and the great recession near the top of any list.
Hopefully, 2009 will be viewed at a later date as a year of transition, one that brought about better times. Clearly, it ended on a much better note than it began. Although economic conditions are still somewhat shaky (as evidenced by lingering high unemployment), there is every reason to –believe that with continued concerted effort, the positive trends will continue.
For me, personally, I'm looking forward to what 2010 will bring. On the home front, I will get to walk one of my daughters down the aisle on her wedding day—one of those moments a Daddy dreams about from just about the moment he hears, "It's a girl!"
At packagePRINTING, we are excited about continuing to develop the new editorial format that we started this past September. We were able to get a head start on the new decade and now we want to make our editorial something that you can truly value each month—something you can use to improve your bottom lines and serve your customers in better ways.
Each month we will cover important topics like digital printing, sustainability, leading-edge technology developments, and innovative packaging and graphic designs. In this issue you will find information from a recent study by Pira International on digitally printed labels and packaging; a preview of Coca-Cola's PlantBottle™ sustainable soft drink bottle, which the company is highlighting as a sponsor of the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics; and a Grammy Award nominated package design for Neil Young Archives Vol. 1 CD/DVD set. In Technology's Edge, you will see range of developments including GSI Technologies' fully printed numeric displays, state-of-the-art flexographic lenticular capabilities from Pixalen Studio, and KBA's role in future developments in printed electronics.
These items are typical of what you will find in the pages of packagePRINTING throughout the coming year and beyond. They represent just one of the reasons we are looking forward to a great year in 2010.
Best wishes for the coming year.
