The Top Ranked Package Printers in the 2017 Printing Impressions 400

Now in its 34th year, the Printing Impressions 400, compiled by packagePRINTING's sister brand Printing Impressions, provides a comprehensive who's who of the top printing companies in the United States and Canada based on annual sales volume. The list includes all kinds of printing companies, including commercial printers, package printers, publication printers, and more. As those in the industry are well-aware, packaging represents one of the strongest growth areas in the printing industry, and a quick perusal of this year's PI 400 clearly demonstrates how package printers are climbing the ranks of these top companies, as measured by their annual sales volume.

In fact, Mark Michelson, editor-in-chief of Printing Impressions since 1985, found this year's well-represented crop of packaging companies to be particularly impressive, and provided the following analysis:

Those companies appearing on the 2017 PI 400 with a large footprint in the package printing market continue to reap impressive sales gains. Digital printing, including inkjet, has already made strong inroads in the label market, and is now poised to gain traction in the corrugated, folding carton and flexible packaging sectors.

The packaging market, with its high EBITDA valuations, remains red-hot, too, from an M&A standpoint. Commercial printers are also looking to diversify into packaging, partly because it's a printed product space that’s considered to be largely immune from electronic alternatives.
