For the 35th consecutive year, our colleagues at Printing Impressions have compiled a collection of the top 400 printing companies in the United States and Canada ranked by sales volume. This year's list once again demonstrates that package and label printers have established a clear position among the printing industry's most established and successful companies. As printing segments continue to converge and the industry recognizes packaging as not just a stable print segment, but a growing one, it shouldn't be a surprise that package printers continue to be well represented on the Printing Impressions 400.
In his analysis of this year's PI 400, Printing Impressions Editor-in-Chief Mark Michelson highlighted the impact convergence is having across the printing spectrum. Michelson writes:
Few general commercial printers remain. Instead, print markets — which once fit neatly into buckets — are converging, with commercial printers, for example, increasingly moving into wide-format and package printing, and signage shops and package printers eyeing complementary commercial opportunities.
This convergence trend was the key driver that led to the metamorphosis of the former SGIA exhibition into the launch of the all-encompassing PRINTING United show, which will be held Oct. 23-25, 2019, in Dallas. The inaugural event will bring together all segments of the printing industry — from commercial and packaging to graphics and signage — to provide a comprehensive view of all of the components of integrated solutions.
Below is a glimpse at the top package printers on this year's list. Be sure to download the entire PI 400 for a more complete picture of the state of the printing industry in 2018.
