Sun Chemical Sells North American Inks Flexographic Plates Division to PlateCrafters
Sun Chemical has entered into a purchase agreement for its North American Inks Flexographic Plates Division with PlateCrafters, a flexographic trade shop specializing in producing plates for pharmaceutical packaging, narrow web, wide web and corrugated box printing. PlateCrafters has been an industry leading prepress provider since 1971 with manufacturing facilities located throughout North America.
The proposed sale will give Colmar, Pa.-based PlateCrafters various assets, including high-definition (HD) plates with flat-top dot and MicroCell technology focused on the corrugated, narrow and wide web markets as well as sustainable SunLite in-position plates for the corrugated market.
"Over the past several years at Sun Chemical, we’ve invested in expanding our flexographic plate making capacity to meet the growing demand in the corrugated market and to support our growth strategy in leveraging ink relationships to drive sales into the primary packaging market,” said Chris Parrilli, president, North American Inks, Sun Chemical. “Now it is time for us to shift our strategy. This divestiture will allow Sun Chemical to prioritize strategic and core businesses, resulting in improved customer focus and higher value.”
