Sun Chemical Featured On FOX Business Network
PARSIPPANY, NJ—June 19, 2013—Sun Chemical’s innovative leadership in sustainable packaging solutions will be featured on FOX Business News in an upcoming segment of its show called “The Green Room” at 11 a.m. EST on June 22, 2013.
Filmed in Merrill, WI at the InterFlex Group, a flexible package printer and Sun Chemical customer, the episode shows how Sun Chemical’s SunBar Oxygen Barrier Coatings can help brand owners and converters with an eco-friendly solution that lightweights their packaging.
Designed to enable lightweighting of packaging by removing one layer from packaging as well as offering improved laminate flexibility, SunBar oxygen barrier coatings provide a smooth, homogenous, pinhole-free layer that can be easily overprinted with inks and can be laminated to a variety of secondary films.
SunBar coatings are cost-effective, recyclable, biodegradable and press-ready, allowing for lighter-weight packaging, a reduced carbon footprint and easy application with few changes to current equipment. They also offer a reliable and environmentally-friendly alternative to polyvinylidene chloride (PVdC).
“At Sun Chemical, we consider it our responsibility to raise awareness of environmental issues to our customers,” said Russell Schwartz, chief technology officer. “We strive to develop solutions that will help our customers produce less waste and carbon dioxide, while at the same time improving the efficiency of their operations. SunBar barrier coatings are just one example of the efforts we do to improve the eco-efficiency of our customers.”
In addition to developing and offering products that can help lower a customer’s carbon footprint, Sun Chemical also strives to improve its own carbon footprint.
Annually, Sun Chemical publishes its corporate sustainability report, which shows data collected every year since 2005 from approximately 170 Sun Chemical sites in over 25 countries. The key sustainability metrics measured in the data include: energy consumption/conservation at production and non-production sites, the energy carbon footprint at the production sites, process waste reduction, water consumption, materials safety and employee safety.
Providing a report that shows the ongoing management and monitoring of key sustainability metrics is an important part of Sun Chemical’s sustainability policy.
“Our sustainability policy pushes us as a company to improve the eco-efficiency of our processes and products,” said Gary Andrzejewski, Sun Chemical’s corporate vice president of environmental affairs. “Our R&D efforts are a pivotal part of this process as we provide our customers with solutions that will be both eco-friendly and save them money. These data-driven sustainability reports have played a key role in helping our customers achieve many of their eco-efficiency goals.”
