MGI Digital Graphic Technology and Sipe Inc. celebrated a special partnership and successful project at the annual IADD/FSEA Gold Leaf Awards during the recent Odyssey 2015 print finishing conference in Schaumburg, IL. Sipe’s “MISO” design was recognized with a “Gold Leaf” award for both artistic and technical merit in the “Best Use of Digital UV” category.
Sipe, based in Fort Wayne, IN, creates and produces sensory print images with its unique “Touch Me 3D UV” enhancement process. Its enhanced and textured “Cupcake” image, spot UV coated with varnish on the MGI JETvarnish 3D system, is featured on the cover of the new nationally-distributed, annual FSEA Industry Sourcebook directory.
Steve Hatlem, president of Sipe, said, “This award is a positive reinforcement from our peers for the value of creative design and digital technology." The Odyssey conference is held by the International Association of Diemakers & Diecutters (IADD) and the Foiling, Stamping, Embossing Association (FSEA) every year to allow the industry’s top print finishing professionals to share ideas, experiences, techniques and technologies.
According to MGI, its JETvarnish 3D and iFOIL products support production printing applications to produce eye-catching, luxurious-feeling 3D foil and embossed textured effects. MGI’s finishing solutions streamline spot UV coating, embossed tactile coating and embossed foiling through a fully digital process that requires no screens or dies and no minimum runs. MGI’s creative enhancement options help graphic artists and printers utilize their craft experience to offer dynamic new digital designs, features and formats.
