SCREEN Americas Installs Truepress Jet L350UV at Scott, Louisiana-Based Hulco Printers

SCREEN Americas announces the installation of the Truepress Jet L350UV to Hulco Printers Inc. of Scott, Louisiana. The press, which was installed in November 2024, has led the full-service printer to further expand its label business and improve the local economy.

Scott, just west of Lafayette, is the home of Cajun cooking. And where there’s shrimp to be fried, crabs to be cooked, and crawfish to be boiled, a good Cajun meal is nothing without a rich seasoning of hot and mild spices to complement the food and make one’s mouth water for more. Then there’s the hot sauce, that is, if you’re bold enough to try some. Where there’s seasoning and sauce, there’s a need for labels.

Originally known for its commercial printing, Hulco Printers has been serving the region with everything from envelopes to brochures to yard signs to business cards since 1972. It was eating that irresistible Cajun food in his southern kitchen just off the coast of Vermillion Bay when Hulco Printers’ second-generation owner, Obie Hulin, realized he had a big future in label production. Whether it was that hot sauce or seasoning, he can’t recall, but he knew he could improve on the CMYK he saw on the label of the bottle he held in his hand.

A good businessman with grassroots principles, Hulin was quickly able to identify his target audience and took a show-and-tell approach to the local community after the Truepress Jet L350UV was installed in his 5,000-square-foot facility. “Simply slapping a label on a bottle and showing my prospects what their product could look like was an easy sell with the L350UV,” said Hulin. “There are only a handful of printers in Louisiana and now that I have ultraviolet technology, the locals realize they no longer need to venture out of state for high-end quality labels.”

Soon Hulin’s list of potential clients grew to 200 within 60 miles of Scott. For Hulin, his future in label production couldn’t look more promising. With the Truepress Jet L350UV, Hulco Printers’ label revenue now accounts for 40% of the company’s overall print production.

Aside from increased label revenue, Hulin also discovered substantial ink and paper savings with the Truepress Jet L350UV compared to the savings from his previous digital label presses. “The advantage of the SCREEN press is that I can run BOPP on it,” said Hulin. “And the cost per roll was reduced considerably from the other stocks I was using. The savings are too great to ignore; too great to bother with other technology. Besides, it’s great to be able to pass these savings on to my customers!” The Truepress Jet L350UV is paired with the DC350Nano die cutter from Grafisk Maskinfabrik A/S and now produces all of the labels at Hulco Printers.

Hulin has his sights on turning his business into a full-fledged label production powerhouse fueling the Louisiana economy. And not just with sauce and seasoning, the sugarcane industry has a lot of potential too.
