Rex Corporation Wins PPC Gold & Excellence Awards
JACKSONVILLE, Fla.—Rex Corporation was recently honored at the 2007 National Paperboard Packaging Competition with a Gold and Excellence Award. The Gold Award was presented to only 19 companies and the Excellence Award was presented to 60 out of 150 entries in this year’s competition.
The Gold Award was presented in the Toys & Recreational Products category for the JBS Vicious Ultimate fishing line carton. The carton incorporates the manufacturer’s objective to develop a package that would increase output during the filling process, since the product is loaded by hand. They also wanted to increase the water resistance of the package since it’s used near lakes and rivers. The new box design incorporates the convenience of a line cutter, and a grommet for continuous line feed without damaging the carton. By utilizing high gloss UV coating, adding a grommet and line cutter to the packaging, JBS achieved longer brand recognition since their customer can now keep the carton throughout the entire product use cycle.
The Excellence Award was presented in the Pharmaceutical & Healthcare category for NBTY Osteo Bi-Flex carton. The manufacturer’s objectives were to reduce the number of SKUs by half while still meeting retailers’ security requirements, and re-launch their cartons with new graphics and UV coating. The manufacturer was carrying two different SKUs for each item in their brand family due to the competing electronic article surveillance (EAS) tag requirements of different retailers. Rex offered the manufacturer a “dual tag” which incorporates both EAS tag technologies. By consolidating to one tag allowed NBTY to reduce their number of SKUs by half, lowered their logistics costs, and consolidated warehousing the different SKUs.
“Winning the PPC Gold and Excellence Awards is an outstanding accomplishment and further positions Rex Corporation as a leader in packaging innovation. I am extremely proud of our people for their dedication to customer excellence, and achieving the quality required to win these prestigious awards,” said Y.E. Hall, Jr., CEO of Rex Corporation.
