Prinergy Wins First-Ever Must See 'Ems "Legacy Award"
CHICAGO—October 6, 2012—The Prinergy prepress workflow system—developed by Creo and Heidelberg and now a product of Eastman Kodak—has received the first-ever MUST SEE 'EMS "Legacy Award." The award recognizes a technology that has had a lasting impact on the entire graphic communications industry. It was selected from among all of the winners since the inaugural MUST SEE 'EMS recognition program in 1999. The honor was announced at the end of the EXECUTIVE OUTLOOK Conference on the eve of GRAPH EXPO 2012, which ran October 7-10 in Chicago's McCormick Place.
"While each of the candidates reviewed by the MUST SEE 'EMS Selection Committee has made a worthwhile contribution to our industry, it was the consensus of the judges to present the 2012 Legacy Award to the Prinergy prepress workflow system," said GASC president Ralph Nappi.
According to MUST SEE 'EMS program coordinator Hal Hinderliter, "Prinergy was not the first PDF-based workflow, but it stood out as the first product to bring the power of in-RIP PDF editing to a large scale audience. Virtually all prepress workflow systems are based on PDF, a concept that Prinergy helped legitimize."
One judge commented, "Nothing else on the list went on to become as widely adopted and used as Prinergy. It's a bedrock technology that continues to evolve as it drives productivity throughout the industry." Another said, "This is still the most widely integrated and automated product on the market...it's a fixture in the industry." Other comments described it as "robust" and "a complete success." Clearly, the Selection Committee felt that in consideration with other progressive MUST SEE 'EMS winners since 1999, Prinergy was a standout with a significant long-term impact on the graphic communications industry.
Moving forward, the Legacy Award will be given annually to recognize one past MUST SEE 'EMS winner that has had a lasting influence on the graphic communications industry. Each year, entries into the MUST SEE 'EMS product and technology recognition program are submitted by the graphic communications industry's top vendors and placed in one of 11 individual categories. Winners are then chosen by the MUST SEE 'EMS Selection Committee, a panel of industry experts, journalists, and consultants who base their choices on the impact they believe these technologies will have on the industry.
For the first time ever, this year, all MUST SEE 'EMS winners were announced prior to GRAPH EXPO to assist show attendees in planning their schedules. At the conclusion of the pre-show EXECUTIVE OUTLOOK Conference, the first-ever MUST SEE 'EMS "Best of Category" winners were announced, along with the single Legacy Award winner.
