5. Suppliers' helping hand

The printer's quest for consistent and long-lasting performance in a letterpress is often aided by design details or service benefits the press manufacturer offers. For instance, Bowdy remarks on the improved ink fountain Ko-Pack has recently incorporated into its presses. The redesign is segmented and easily removable, and, Bowdy maintains, provides for much faster clean-up and better color control. Bowdy has witnessed press set-up time being reduced from four hours to two hours, and clean-up time cut by a third.
