Pratt Industries, America's fifth largest corrugated packaging company and the world's largest privately-held 100% recycled paper and packaging company, announced that it has purchased an HP PageWide Corrugated Press to meet its customers’ growing demand for sustainable packaging and to offer more flexible and agile supply chains.
The robust HP PageWide roll-to-roll preprint press was installed at Pratt’s site in Lewisburg, Ohio in April and will enable increased, long-term value that will boost operational efficiency by providing greater order flexibility, more production agility and faster speed to market with offset print quality, while reducing waste and obsolescence. The new HP Press will help reduce the need for high-volume preprint runs, helping to optimize inventory levels and reduce warehousing needs. The combined power of digital preprint and high-speed production inkjet will also deliver faster turnaround times and speedy production for short runs and limited-edition packaging.
With a series of corrugating facilities strategically placed throughout the United States and Mexico, Pratt is committed to quality, service and innovation and dedicated to sustainable, performance-based packaging. “We are very excited to add high speed digital printing to our graphics capabilities,” said Sergio Morales, General Manager of Pratt Lewisburg. “Digital printing increases our speed to market and flexibility while complementing our flexo and offset graphic offerings, allowing us to offer customers customized graphic solutions that fit their merchandising and supply chain needs.”
In addition to the supply chain benefits, Pratt has selected HP for its sustainable printing technology and true water-based inks that promote and contribute to a circular economy spanning the entire packaging value chain. HP’s true water-based inks are 100% free of UV reactive chemistries and contain no hazardous air pollutants1 for a safe and comfortable work environment, while reducing carbon footprint with recyclable prints that meet PTS standard2. The innovative technology also includes an automatic clean up procedure for print heads to reduce water usage. This supports Pratt’s commitment to offer customers sustainable packaging solutions while reducing the environmental impact of printing.
With HP Thermal Inkjet technology, Pratt will deliver offset print quality for a wide range of corrugated packaging applications on both coated and uncoated liners, delivering sharp text and barcodes, smooth tone transitions and greater color range and graphics customization with orange and violet inks in addition to traditional CMYK.
“We are pleased to have Pratt Industries express their confidence in HP’s technology by adopting our digital print solutions to transform the corrugated packaging supply chain. HP Corrugated Presses enable greater flexibility to respond to dynamic market trends, while enhancing sustainable packaging solutions,” said Ted Samotis, Director, Go-to-Market, HP PageWide Industrial Corrugated.
