Pliant Introduces Empower
SCHAUMBERG, Ill.—Pliant Engineered Films, a global leader in packaging technology, announces their Empower suite of technologies for source reduction in packaging. The introduction of this portfolio of sustainable packaging solutions represents Pliant’s dedication to packaging sustainability initiatives, primarily driven by source reduction.
While source reduction lowers material and energy consumption it also represents a renewed efficiency in shipping and a concerted effort to decrease greenhouse gas emissions.
The Empower portfolio has launched with three introductory technologies INsight, Synergy, and Endurance. These technologies allow brand owners to lower their packaging environmental footprint as well as enhance marketing opportunities, protect moisture properties and increase yield, respectively.
INsight sealant film allows converters and brand owners to print on the sealant layer, on the inside of a package while eliminating a lamination pass. Brand owners benefit with a high-performance, energy-saving package that maximizes marketing opportunities. INsight is ideal across several markets as promotional messages are key to gaining and retaining brand interest.
Synergy is a hybrid film with top performance traits that add stiffness and moisture barrier properties to a package using less material. When used as a lamination for stand-up pouch applications, the film adds stiffness to an existing package. Additionally, the film can be used as a single substrate for pillow pouch applications. These features help maintain product freshness and consistency from the packaging line to the consumer, ultimately protecting the brand. Synergy is ideal for bakery, snack, confectionary, and pet food packaging applications.
Endurance, a thin gauged monolayer sealant film, gives converters and brand owners the ability to maximize yield while maintaining a high quality final product. Designed to run 20 to 30 percent thinner than conventional products, the film delivers high-speed performance that is cost effective and environmentally advantageous. Increasing the total yield per roll will help reduce waste without giving up the film’s ability to perform. Endurance is ideal for any competitive industry that requires excellent sealant technology.
“The Empower suite of technologies was developed to help converters and brand owners enhance their sustainability efforts, a significant industry trend,” said Jim Kingsley, general manager, engineered films division of Pliant. “Sustainability through source reduction decreases the amount of material necessary to develop a high-quality package; enabling our customers to achieve their sustainability goals.”
With a strong commitment to its extensive R&D program, Pliant will continue to expand the Empower portfolio of packaging technologies for sustainability.
