Plastic Packaging Technologies (PPT), headquartered in Kansas City, Kansas, has acquired two 10-color MIRAFLEX flexographic presses, marking the company’s first investment in Windmoeller & Hoelscher technology.
Experiencing ongoing, robust growth put PPT in the market for high-quality 10-color printing capabilities for both its Kansas City and Columbus, Ohio facilities. The incoming presses will complement several Totani pouch machines in producing packaging with a powerful shelf presence for major brands, CPGs and private label customers.
Deciding to go with W&H for the first time was the result of intensive vetting.
“The performance test conducted at W&H printing lab in Germany was very affirming, particularly with the results on a known bounce job performed at full speed,” said David Potter, vice president and general manager of PPT.
The MIRAFLEX presses to be installed have the latest camera technology from BST/Eltromat with 100 percent defect detection and continual on-line color monitoring and verification, a feature which the company is looking forward to employing. The 52˝ presses are equipped with EASY SET HD and S for fully automatic impression setting, EASY REG D and S for automatic registration setting and the EASY-COL color matching system. The presses are scheduled for late 2015 and early 2016 installation.
PPT has recently embarked upon two large projects, including rebranding the company with the slogan PURPOSEFUL.POWERFUL.PACKAGING and expanding and renovating the Kansas City facility. The building will house a state-of-the-art packaging engineering lab, a new pre-media and print quality lab, a large employee training and certification space, a production floor for printing and converting as well as offices.
PPT operates under 5S lean manufacturing and has an internal team of engineers keeping a close eye on efficiency and potential for improvements.
