Phoenix Challenge Foundation Gives Flexography Students Opportunity to Compete and Network

The Phoenix Challenge Foundation, a non-profit organization promoting flexographic education at the high school and college levels, has announced details for its 2018 student competitions.

The Phoenix Challenge College Competition will be held first, taking place from March 23-25 at the Drury Plaza Hotel in Chesterfield, Mo., the organization stated in a press release. The seven teams taking part in the College Competition are tasked with developing a solution to a proposed business problem. Teams will present their solutions, which will include elements of research, design and printing, the release states.

This year’s college competition will also feature educational and networking opportunities for the participating students, including tours of Mark Andy and RotoMetrics, both located in the Saint Louis area, near the site of the competition.

Following the College Competition, the Phoenix Challenge Foundation will host its 21st annual Phoenix Challenge High School Skills Competition from April 11-13 at the Harper Campus of Central Piedmont Community College in Charlotte, N.C. According to a separate press release, between 30 and 40 high school students from throughout North America will participate in the team event, which will test a variety of flexographic printing skills.

Specifically, the release explains that students will have to demonstrate their skills in prepress, platemaking, plate mounting, mathematics, press set up and operation. Each member of the winning team will receive a $1,000 Phoenix Challenge Foundation Scholarship.
