LECCO, Italy—Omet launched its Omet India subsidiary, based in Bangalore, at the recently held India Label exhibition. The move follows a rapid growth in the demand for flexo-printed packaging from an area where industrialization is occurring on a major scale.
This economic development, which is raising living standards, has caught the attention of the multi-national brand owners, who are keen to be first to the market with their products, and at the same time preserve their global quality standards. One such company is Wal-Mart, which has identified India, and its growth potential, as an area for investment.
India already has a strong tradition of flexo printing, and the biennial India Label event attracted suppliers of narrow-web technology from presses to anilox rolls, inks, substrates, and all associated areas of technology. With brand images to support and protect from counterfeiting, the latest in hologram and other security solutions was on display.
Omet’s participated with a six-color Flexy line. This is the company’s compact multi-task flexo press designed for converting labels, plastic films, and light board, and is priced at a level to appeal to emerging markets like India, which is cost sensitive.
Visitors to the Omet stand were able to see 38-micron BOPP film as well as self-adhesive paper being run on the Flexy, along with 30-micron PET, 40-micron cast PVC, and 40-micron expanded PVC. The company accepted several orders during the expo.
