Nordson Supports PPC’s Sustainability Outreach and Education Program
DULUTH, Ga.—Four Nordson (Nasdaq: NDSN) communities participated in the Paperboard Packaging Council’s (PPC) Trees Into Cartons, Cartons Into Trees (TICCIT) program during the month of April. In honor of Earth Day and Arbor Day, the educational portion of the program outlined how trees are used to produce paperboard packaging and the process for recycling used paperboard to extend the life of the paperboard and preserve trees. Additionally, TICCIT promotes tree planting to reinforce and highlight the need for recycling paperboard products. The programs are geared to elementary and middle school students to help put them on the path to protecting natural resources.
Nordson employees in Rhode Island, California, Ohio and Georgia all participated in events at local schools and Boys & Girls Clubs. Following a presentation about paper manufacturing and recycling, the students took part in a hands-on exercise. Paperboard cartons were decorated and then saplings were planted in them for the children to take home and subsequently plant.
“We love to have people from the local community come in and interact with the kids. Not only do the kids learn from the experience, but the volunteers have a chance to see what we are about as well. The kids really enjoyed getting their hands dirty and having the sapling planted in the actual paperboard carton really showed the full circle of sustainability,” says Rory Johnson, executive director Lawrenceville Boys & Girls Club.
