Nordemeccanica, Rohm and Haas Demonstrate Fast-Cure Adhesive
PHILADELPHIA—Specialty materials producer Rohm and Haas, in conjunction with equipment manufacturer Nordmeccanica, recently proved that the company’s new fast-cure MOR-FREETM L75-164 adhesive could easily achieve line speeds of as much as 1,200 feet-per-minute for difficult polyester-to-polyester laminations. Live demonstrations held at Nordmeccanica’s North America facilities left no doubt among many invited packaging converters that this solventless adhesive, coupled with Nordmeccanica’s Super Simplex Laminator, provides the exacting performance and stringent tension levels to laminate miles of film successfully. Nordmeccanica is the world’s largest manufacturer of coating and laminating equipment.
Rohm and Haas was the first company to perfect solventless adhesives for laminating and high performance retort packaging applications. Their new MOR-FREE L75-164 solventless adhesive provides bonds up to 200g within two hours, cures within four hours to allow same shift slitting to proceed, and can cure completely in just three days to more quickly allow fill operations, instead of the typical two to three weeks storage before use. In addition, Rohm and Haas also highlighted their high performance solventless adhesive for retort applications, MOR-FREETM 225. Nordmeccanica’s sales director, Giancarlo Caimmi, and vice president for technology, Vincenzo Cerciello, hosted the first-ever demonstration in North America of their newest Super Simplex Laminator.
Advancements today in solventless adhesives allow users to avoid VOC and CO2 concerns, as well as reduce energy costs since dryers are not required for the lamination process. During trials with polyester-to-polyester lamination, Mor-Free adhesives exhibited no misting or smearing of inks on finished films. Laminators and packagers find that installing solventless equipment enables them to add line capacity quickly and economically. Nordmeccanica, based in Piacenza, Italy, installs over 140 new machines annually under the brand names: Simplex; Super Simplex; Super Combi 3000; Duplex; Triplex; Quadruplex; Multi Layer; Fusion; and World Mixer. Their reputation for dependability, quality and high productivity is recognized throughout the world. All Nordmeccanica products are made in Italy and equipped with Western European and North American components only.
