P-S Labeling for Wines
MENTOR, OHIO—Avery Dennison Corp. has introduced its Aqua Stick Portfolio with Z3338 advanced emulsion adhesive that enables sparkling wine and champagne brand owners to effectively use pressure-sensitive labeling materials on surfaces with heavy condensation.
Z3338 provides in-line, wet-applied label positioning that improves operational efficiencies, including reduced line downtime and less product obsolescence. "With Z3338, narrow-web converters can provide sparkling wine and champagne brand owners an adhesive that maintains packaging integrity throughout the value chain, even in the most difficult conditions," said Yaron Zimmerman, product manager specialty and application products, Avery Dennison Label and Packaging Materials. "Moreover, pressure-sensitive labeling, enabled by Z3338, opens up a new palette of choices for distinctive label design elements of shelf appeal that are critical for success in this dynamic segment. … The glue-applied process, commonly used today for champagne and sparkling wine label applications, limits the label shapes and printing techniques that can be used. Pressure-sensitive labels give brand owners the flexibility to utilize additional design elements that enhance the eye appeal of their products."
Creative Labels Adds Epson SurePress
LONG BEACH, Calif.—Creative Labels Inc. has purchased and installed an Epson® SurePress® L-4033A digital press. The company will be use the inkjet digital label press to produce high-quality labels for applications including food and beverage, health and beauty, and technical goods.
"The current prime label market is very competitive and the Epson SurePress allows us to respond to small-run jobs that demand high quality," says Sandy Franzen, president and co-owner, Creative Labels.
"We were especially impressed with the quality looking as if it could have been printed on a flexo press, but in perfect register, with no quality problems generally associated with flexo," adds Chris Martin, VP and co-owner.
"We just acquired a new customer that had such complex graphic files for three labels that we would have had to not accept the job if it had not been for our SurePress," expands Franzen. "These labels had reversed out 4-point type in what was supplied as a 4-color process graphic file with the label backgrounds done in various screens and shades of either orange, green, or brown. Printing in Hexachrome made these colors really pop, and when compared to a 4-color process print from our press proofer, we were blown away, not only by the oranges and greens, but the depth and warmth of the browns as well."
Lotus Labels Invests in Xeikon Press
ITASCA, ILL.—Xeikon NV announced that Lotus Labels, a Brea, Calif.-based manufacturer of custom-made labels and tags, has purchased and installed a Xeikon 3300 digital color press to open up new business opportunities in the production of pressure-sensitive labels.

The Xeikon 3300 will allow the company to more competitively pursue new business opportunities in which prospective customers are ordering multiple labels consisting of smaller quantities that are cost-prohibitive using flexographic technology.
"We felt that in order to be competitive, we really need to invest in a powerful digital press that's our own and that would give us flexibility to move some of our flexo jobs to the digital press, giving our customers a faster turnaround," says Tracie Wu, VP of Lotus Labels."

Trade-In, Rebuild Program
ST. LOUIS, MO.—Mark Andy has recently expanded its support offerings to include trade-ins and rebuilds. Under this program, the company will accept select pre-owned equipment and provide credit toward the purchase of a new Mark Andy press or Rotoflex rewinder. Alternatively, a converter not in a position to purchase a new machine may search the rebuilt inventory to find a pre-owned machine suitable to their needs.
