Styrene for HP Indigo Presses
CHICAGO—GPA has added Double Opaque and Near Dead Opaque Styrene for HP Indigo presses to its collection of Ultra DigitaL® Synthetic Substrates. Styrene is a durable substrate that offers added stability and resilience over papers, while serving as a less expensive alternative to other durable films.
GPA offers the product in a 10-mil thickness with a matte/matte finish in 12 x 18 sheets. Styrene will not curl or warp from moisture, is FDA approved for indirect food contact, and can be diecut and thermoformed for application versatility. Ultra Digital® Styrene is HP Indigo and RIT certified for guaranteed performance on HP Indigo presses.
Honors for RotoMetrics's Steve Lee
The Label Industry Global Awards 2012 announced that Steve Lee has been awarded the R. Stanton Avery Lifetime Achievement Award. Lee is the vice president of technology at RotoMetrics. The award is sponsored by Avery Dennison.
Lee has been credited for his role in getting the industry to work together to develop and spread the use of pressure-sensitive labels worldwide. He has played an active role in industry associations, especially TLMI, where he has served on the board multiple times and acts as chairman of the TLMI Annual Label Awards Competition. The judges added that his guidance in developing new solutions has maximized the ability of converters to produce world-class products for their end users
"The entire RotoMetrics team is proud of this recognition of Steve's contributions to the industry and his ongoing leadership in our business," stated Robert Spiller, RotoMetrics President and CEO.
The R. Stanton Avery Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented at a ceremony and banquet during Labelexpo Americas 2012.
MTL Print N.A. Headquarters
ATLANTA—MTL Print announced its decision to establish North American headquarters including a new executive organization for the region. The new headquarters and demonstration facility serving North America is located in Kennesaw, Ga.
CEO Ran Emanuel says these actions indicate MTL Print's high growth forecasts for the Americas. MTL Print is known for its wide format digital flatbed systems, already in use around the world and at sign and packaging sites in North America. At the same time, Emanuel said the company has decided to name the final version of its Meital 304D product the NURstar 304.
Heading up the list of North American executives are industry sales veterans Pedro Marcano, Henry Maya, and Zohar Barabie. Marcano will serve as regional sales manager, west coast; and Maya will support the organization in the same position, for the east coast. Barabie will serve as sales manager for packaging.
Strong Show for Heidelberg
KENNESAW, Ga.—Heidelberg North America made a strong showing across all product categories at drupa 2012. Printers' interest in a wide range solutions gave a clear signal that investment confidence is returning to the North American market. In total, Heidelberg North America received orders for more than 30 presses; almost 40 post-press solutions; and 30 prepress, workflow, and CtP solutions.
"drupa 2012 reinforced Heidelberg's dominance as an industry leader and technology innovator, and showed the North American market to be progressive and dynamic," said Harald Weimer, president of Heidelberg USA. "We hosted more than 600 American commercial, packaging, label and digital printers during the show, an encouraging increase over drupa 2008 attendance."
W&H Press for PolyCello
LINCOLN, R.I.—Nova Scotia-based PolyCello has purchased a 10-color VISTAFLEX flexographic press from Windmoeller & Hoelscher. This marks PolyCello's first investment in W&H technology.
"We continually invest in equipment to address current and projected capacity," said Stephen Emmerson, president and CEO of PolyCello. "The quality and efficiency of this press will be second to none in North America, allowing PolyCello to continue its leadership role as one of North America's premiere flexographic printers."

After 32 years at Bobst, Alan Thompson has taken the role of senior VP of sales and marketing for Brausse N.A., a member of the Bobst Group. He will be instrumental in driving the sales of the Brausse folder/gluer lines.
RotoMetrics announced the appointment of Dr. Peter Emerson as managing director,
RotoMetrics Europe. He will report to the company's president and CEO and will have responsibility for all aspects of the firm's European operations.
Greg Harms has joined the Harper GraphicSolutions division of Harper Corporation of America as the South East technical graphic advisor.
Ken Ferguson recently joined INX International Ink Co. as its technical manager for distributors.
Danafilms recently named Mark Turano as its newest sales manager and Clark Sylvester as its new plant manager at its Westborough, Mass., location.
Mark Andy announced the promotion of two executives to lead the company's sales management initiatives worldwide. Steve Schulte has been promoted to VP sales and marketing, and Mike Russell is the company's international sales director.
