Color-Logic Enhances Customer Sales; Certifies Presstek
WEST CHESTER, OHIO—Wold Top Brewery, a craft brewery in the Yorkshire Wolds of England, recently chose the Process Metallic Color System from Color-Logic to produce packages that help its brand stand out on store shelves. According to brewery co-owner Gill Mellor, "The package designed by Color-Logic increased our gift sales by one-third in the 2012 Christmas season, and elicited favorable comments from retailers and customers alike. Just looking at the pack, everyone assumes we have a gold foil box."
In unrelated news, Color-Logic has extended its longstanding relationship with Presstek by certifying the Presstek 75DI press for use with the Process Metallic Color System. Mark Sullivan, Presstek group product director, digital printing, says, "The special effects and extreme high quality produced by the Color-Logic software and the Presstek 75DI presses invariably catch the eye of brand owners as they look for ways to make their brands stand out from the crowd. We are pleased to partner with Color-Logic to bring these capabilities to our customer base."
Third Martin Splicer for Label Technology
MERCED, CALIF.—Label Technology has installed a Martin butt splicer on a new MPS EXL660 flexible packaging press. The MBSF splicer matches the high productivity specifications of the 10-unit, 26˝ press, unwinding and splicing paper and unsupported films, including 48g PET, at speeds to 750 fpm.
David Bankson, president of Label Technology, says, "Martin butt splicers are an essential piece of equipment on our flexible packaging lines." The latest installation brings to three the number of Martin Automatic splicers in Label Technology's facility, with splicers running on Mark Andy and PCMC presses.
Bunting Enhances Ordering Options

iSys Adds VDP Software
CALGARY, ALBERTA—iSys Label announced the release of its new variable data software, iSys Variable Data Printing (iVDP) Version 2.2.0.0, a full featured software package that was developed for the company's short-to-mid-run digital label printers, the APEX 1290 and EDGE 850. Compatible with iSys2Print label software, iVDP provides the ability to combine static and dynamic content to create varying multi-graphic labels containing variable text, images, and bar codes.
Grafix Intros Modular Converting System
BROOKFIELD, CONN.—Grafix Equipment has unveiled its Mod Tech line of modular components to address the numerous array of off-line finishing and converting applications. The new system features web capabilities spanning 10˝-40˝ web widths. Applications such as digital re-register diecut and finishing, ECL converting and diecutting, inkjet printing, and diecutting systems for small folding cartons are available, as well as custom-engineered applications.
Harper Launches HEX Division
CHARLOTTE, N.C.—Global anilox roll supplier Harper Corporation of America unveiled a new division—Harper Echo-Xccessories, or HEX division. This move will allow the Harper team to introduce new items to its line of products, thereby enhancing its position as a one-stop shop for printing companies. Currently, the HEX division features bridge sleeves and a flexo sleeve system.
Vice President of Operations Lee Kluttz comments: "I am very excited about the new HEX division. This new facet of Harper Corporation will complement our current products and services while providing a higher degree of support to industry professionals."
Louis Oscar Werneke, 1926-2013
Louis Oscar Werneke, a successful businessman who founded Werneke Ink, died peacefully on March 31. Werneke's company supplied water-based and UV inks to the label printing industry from eight U.S. facilities and distributors throughout the world. He sold his company to Akzo Nobel Inks (now part of Flint Group) in 1998.

Greg Running has been promoted to the role of national sales manager, Canada, for Kodak. He will be responsible for managing Kodak's commercial sales team in Canada, representing the full portfolio of digital printing equipment, digital prepress, workflow, and consumables.
Georg Riescher has been appointed head of research and development for the Label Business of Gallus.
Officials of tesa tape, inc. announced the addition of new sales representatives to support the company's print and web processing business segment. David Meissner will provide sales support for the Southeastern states, including: North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, and Tennessee with the exception of Chattanooga. Kelly Conner will support the central U.S. states, including: Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, Colorado, and New Mexico.
Mohawk has named Beth Reardon to the position of district sales manager, national accounts. She will oversee the growth of national end-user accounts.
Harvey Levenson, longtime professor and head of Cal Poly's Graphic Communication Department, will retire in June. He will be succeeded as department head by professor Kenneth Macro. Macro joined Cal Poly in 2000 and teaches product development, marketing, and production management.
Nordson EDI has appointed Kevin L. Bahr to the position of aftermarket and customer service manager. He will oversee customer service for both new and remanufactured dies and will be responsible for furthering the growth of the company's extensive global aftermarket business. pP
