ANSONIA, Conn.—Connecticut Metal Industries has announced the opening of a new facility specifically designed to handle in-plant scrap for the packaging industry. The company actively recycles production scrap from laminators, metallizers, contract packagers, label makers, and film manufacturers. The new facility is designed to be a one-stop recycler for all types of production scrap including foils, laminates, plastic films, as well as containers made from plastic, tin, or aluminum.
The company will also be installing equipment to recover materials from all types of RFID scrap including labels and ID cards. This facility will be the first dedicated recycler for RFID and embedded chip in North American manufacturers. Connecticut Metal will purchase and process RFID substrates, antennae, chips and finished labels as well as ink scrap and other types of production waste. In addition the company plans to recoup metals and plastics from ID badges, smart card and magnetic strip cards. “By providing a total recycling solution for the packaging industry, we hope to promote recycling at the plant level,” said Tom Mele, president of the firm. “The cost saving in disposal fees and in many cases the value of the materials recovered have provided a competitive advantage to many of our customers. Good, sound in-house recycling of packaging materials is an essential first step in the Sustainable Packaging agenda,” he added.
