If there are any remaining skeptics of the high-quality printing that can be done with digital technology, the work coming out of Multi-Color Corporation's Mile End South, Australia, facility should put those doubts to rest. In the 32nd annual packagePRINTING Excellence Awards, a competition that featured labels, folding cartons, flexible packaging and corrugated entries spanning all conventional and digital printing processes, one of Multi-Color's digital entries emerged as a serious contender for the title of Best of Show.
The label was produced for Remedy Australian Dry Gin, a small batch spirit produced at Reed & Co. Distillery, a family-owned distillery in the town of Bright, Victoria, Australia. The label was printed using an HP Indigo WS6600 digital press in combination with AB Graphic Digicon equipment. The combination of high-quality digital printing and finishing stood out to the Excellence Awards judging panel, as the label emerged as the third place winner in Best of Show and earned first place in the Labels: Digital category.
"I liked the use of texture and the black looks very good," said Paul Judziewicz, digital solutions manager for Domino and one of the Excellence Awards judges. "The image quality rivals offset."
