MGI Digital Technology has announced the launch of a powerful range of new digital print production systems at drupa 2016 — the Meteor Unlimited Colors Series. The Unlimited Colors product series features MGI Meteor digital presses fully integrated with MGI’s award-winning iFOIL module to create in-line printing and foiling solutions that go far beyond a simple fifth or sixth color.
Print Service Providers (PSPs) and converters are now able to produce output with a virtually unlimited number of colors via the blending of CMYK toner and the reflective qualities of foil — including a rainbow spectrum of hues with metallic, glitter and holographic effects.
Worldwide Release at drupa 2016
The Meteor Unlimited Colors Series will be demonstrated live at the MGI (Hall 5, Booth 21) and Konica Minolta (Hall 8B, Booth A65) booths at the upcoming drupa 2016 international print trade fair from May 31 to June 10 in Düsseldorf, Germany.
100% Digital Printing and Foiling
The Meteor Unlimited Colors system uses a 100% digital process to create “cold foil” types of new color palettes. This unique printing press and postpress foiling system completely eliminates the cost and need for diemaking and traditional makeready setup times and waste. A wide variety of standard market foils — and colors, patterns and designs — can be used to create brilliant (and highly profitable) special effects.
Visual Versatility on Hundreds of Substrates
The Unlimited Colors solution is a high-production press that can cost-effectively create truly remarkable toner-over-foil overprinting blends of color and light on a diverse range of substrates — including uncoated and coated paper, envelopes, laminated surfaces, plastics and many other synthetic materials. The system can use two different foils in a single pass.
Metallic Foil Effects with No Dies, Screens or Plates
The unique Meteor Unlimited Colors solution creates new revenue opportunities for applications such as direct mailpieces, business cards, brochures, stationary, invitations, greeting, gift and loyalty cards. The digital process completely eliminates the traditional costs, times and waste involved with dies and plates. This allows printers to reduce expensive specialty outsourcing and offers a tremendous ROI with the substitution of inexpensive toner-foiled sheets for the high-cost of metallic paper stocks.
Security Hologram Printing for Packaging and Identification
The Meteor Unlimited Colors product series also features Authentication Hologram Digital Printing (AHDP). This is a new MGI exclusive and patented system that produces on-demand holographic imprints with specially-formulated toner and foil. The digital holographic effects offer customized security authentication options at a fraction of traditional costs.
This powerful anti-counterfeiting method is now economically accessible without the need of expensive dies and lengthy tooling processes. AHDP also works in conjunction with Variable Data Printing (VDP) to create unique document identification applications.
Drupa Press Conference
A press conference will be held on Tuesday, May 31 at 3 p.m. to discuss new MGI corporate announcements, the growing Konica Minolta global alliance and new product strategies (Located in Room 8 of the Press Conference Centre – CCD South).
