MeadWestvaco’s Natralock Answers Call for Sustainable Packaging Systems
International Packaging Fee Comparison
With the implementation of packaging fee programs—the requiring of consumer packaged goods companies to pay fees based on the packaging components used in their systems—becoming an increasingly common practice, the analysis compared fees associated with two versions of an ink cartridge carton in nine representative markets. While the systems have dissimilar packaging components, EPI calculated the component weights of the PVC system (158.6 grams) and Natralock (102.4 grams), and determined the average fee of Natralock to be 73 percent lower than the alternative. In general, the larger amount of plastic used in the PVC system resulted in higher fees, and Natralock’s high percentage of recycled content helped contribute to its better score.
