Martin Automatic Installs New Splicer, Rewinder at FTS
ROCKFORD, Ill.—Martin Automatic Inc. announced the installation of a new splicer and rewinder combo on a narrow-web label press at Flexographic Trade Services (FTS) in Fort Mill, S.C. The Martin Automatic MBSC butt splicer will be combined with an STR turret rewinder to provide non-stop roll changing for FTS’s new Mark Andy P5 Performance series press.
Matching the press speed of up to 500 fpm, the new MBSC/STR combo is an affordable upgrade that can significantly boost productivity and reduce materials waste for more profitable operations.
Gavin Rittmeyer, vice president of sales for Martin Automatic, said, “For a number of years, Martin has been a vendor sponsor of Flexographic Trade Services, where visitors and students have been able to see and experience the benefits of non-stop splicing. Our new MBSC splicer, coupled with an STR turret rewinder as a combo package, represents an exceptionally affordable investment that puts roll automation easily within reach of most narrow-web label printers. We are very excited about creating the opportunity for students to train on this high-performance equipment.”
The MBSC shares many features and capabilities with Martin’s MBS splicer, including the same patented rolling-shear splice unit, lift-and-load roll loading from the aisle, automatic roll sidelay to insure that webs are aligned at the splice, and inertia-compensated festoon. Rittmeyer notes that the MBSC has been specifically designed for narrower web-widths up to 13 inches (330 mm) and smaller roll diameters up to 31.5 inches (800 mm).
The Martin splicer and rewinder will be featured at the FTS open house event the week of August 9, 2010.
