Markens Speaks on North American Packaging Trends at ECMA Summit
SPRINGFIELD, MA—September 28, 2012—On September 20, 2012, Ben Markens, president of the Paperboard Packaging Council (PPC), made a presentation to over 175 attendees at the General Session of the European Carton Makers Association (ECMA) Congress in Copenhagen, Denmark. His presentation described the results of the soon-to-be-released Trends 2012 Industry Outlook and Market Data Report, a 116-page annual report that describes recent trends and predicts what lies ahead for the paperboard packaging industry.
A few highlights covered in his presentation were the encouraging results of PPC’s 2012 Market Flash Report (a month-month snapshot of members’ shipments, raw materials, inventory, and works in progress), new legislation around product safety issues, and the potential for growth as well as the challenges the industry faces.
“As our European counterparts in the industry, it is paramount that we learn of the advancements and obstacles in the European sector,” said Ben Markens. “It is also important that we share with them the latest trends we’ve observed in North America.”
Co-written by RISI, the leading provider of paperboard packaging industry market forecasts and analysis, the Trends 2012 Industry Outlook and Market Data Report is organized into three key sections covering business conditions, folding carton industry forecasts, and the trends for 17 key end-use markets such as pharmaceuticals, tobacco, and dairy products.
