manroland Opens New Warehouse in Illinois
ELK GROVE VILLAGE, Ill.—In an effort to improve the customer experience and decrease downtime for customers, manroland AG has opened a new Western Hemisphere warehouse in Elk Grove Village, Ill. The new facility will provide customers with higher levels of service and more immediate availability to service parts. It will also optimize the investment in spare parts inventories by maintaining them closer to the users who need them.
According to Jerry Burgoni, director of supply chain and order fulfillment for manroland Inc., the new Western Hemisphere Regional Warehouse increases support for customers and the manroland service organization in North, Central and South America.
The manroland global warehouse strategy involves distributing inventories of parts to strategic locations around the world where they can be closer to the users who need them. The corporation now has three factory parts warehouses located in the United States, Asia and Europe. No matter where a customer is located globally, there is a manroland factory parts warehouse open to service its needs.
After months of planning, the work of setting up the new warehouse began in November 2010. The first shipment of items not previously stocked in the Western Hemisphere arrived in late November. It began operating on a limited basis on January 1, 2011.
Burgoni said that the items in inventory at the Elk Grove Village warehouse are a mix of commonly used pressroom items, and more rarely needed press parts. The volume of orders being shipped to customers from the new facility across North America is growing weekly. Ultimately, plans are to stock most parts for both sheetfed presses and web presses, all available for same-day shipment to manroland customers in the Western Hemisphere.
The new warehouse operations are fully integrated into the order systems of manroland. Orders for parts, entered by customer service personnel in Westmont, Ill., and Toronto are immediately received at the Elk Grove warehouse for picking, packing and same-day shipment.
