Kodak Helps Pharma Industry Strengthen Supply Chain
ROCHESTER, NY—November 26, 2012—This week, Kodak will meet with pharmaceutical and healthcare professionals in Washington, D.C. to identify strategies, policies and technologies that prevent illicit prescription drugs from reaching patients by way of counterfeit or diversion.
Kodak’s showcase of expertise and technologies is part of the 7th Global Forum on Pharmaceutical Anticounterfeiting and Diversion, which hosts manufacturers, distributors, government officials and pharmacists. Thomas D. Pawlik, Ph.D., Kodak’s Chief Scientist for Brand Protection Solutions, will provide an inside look at successful brand security techniques during his session, “Think Like a Diverter: Maximizing Pharma Industry Serialization and Track and Trace Investments,” at 2:50 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 28.
Pawlik’s insights will help attendees enhance their track and trace implementations by understanding how to identify vulnerabilities in supply chain security. In the pharmaceutical industry, gray market activities such as diversion take advantage of these weak spots and open the door for other illicit activities including counterfeit, stolen and tampered product. He will also share examples relevant to track and trace, which draw from Kodak’s experience protecting customers from gray market activities in other industries.
Kodak’s proven brand protection solutions meet the immediate needs of brand owners and have been successfully implemented in a variety of industries including pharmaceuticals, financial services, cosmetics, and wine and spirits.
“Kodak understands the challenges of the pharmaceutical industry and we focus on developing solutions that not only combat current problems, but also anticipate future threats,” said Randy Young, Kodak’s Worldwide Director of Packaging and Brand Management Services. “This annual event provides a great opportunity for Kodak to connect with healthcare and pharmaceutical professionals to answer questions related to concerns for patient safety, legal liabilities and brand equity.”
Kodak’s latest addition to its portfolio offers the ability to monitor a product from manufacture to retail. The new track and trace solution combines product authentication, tracking database software, integrated online event monitoring tools and back-end supply chain system integration for secure end-to-end tracking of products.
Kodak also develops tailored and cost-effective solutions that can be integrated seamlessly into a company’s current manufacturing, labeling or packaging process without disruption. This includes the KODAK TRACELESS Antidiversion System and the KODAK TRACELESS Color CIJ System, which help brand owners prevent illegitimate distribution channels through the use of invisible security markers within invisible or visible inks and a proprietary detection system to defend against grey market activities. “Attendees at this year’s forum will quickly learn that Kodak’s brand protection technologies are game-changing and help professionals confront counterfeiting, fraud and diversion head-on,” said Young. “Kodak will continue to develop new technologies that help its customers keep the upper hand against these threats.”
