Karstedt Associates Initiates Packaging Graphics Outsourcing Study
EDEN, N.Y.—Karstedt Associates is conducting a comprehensive industry-wide study that asks, “Have conditions been put in place that create ‘the perfect storm’ of events that make outsourcing of graphic services for package design/production, premedia, and prepress a necessary business practice?”
Karstedt Associates hopes to bring answers to those in the packaging graphic development supply chain who need to understand the benefits, challenges, and ramifications of outsourcing, or not outsourcing.
“Outsourcing of graphic services is not a new concept in our industry. However, in light of current global economic conditions, in conjunction with advancements in how graphics are created and managed; it may become more the rule than the exception in the next few years,” says Kevin Karstedt, publisher of the study.
Companies that operate within the packaging supply chain providing graphic services are being forced to be creative as they consider how they will both grow their businesses, along with providing quality, timely, and cost-effective products and services to their customers. Some are looking to reduce expenses and overhead while still providing a quality product. Others are looking to grow their businesses without having to invest heavily in new equipment and labor. As these companies evaluate the range of options open to them many are considering the use of outsourced services as part of the equation.
“I have been approached by brand owners, packaging designers, trade shops, and package printers all looking for actionable intelligence on the most effective use of subcontractors and outsourcing for labor-intensive graphic production projects,” says Karstedt, “There seems to be no better time for a study to be done to help these companies evaluate their options and to build effective strategies.”
In addition, to cost and time advantages, some small and medium-sized companies are looking to overseas partnerships to give them a global footprint, thus allowing them to compete with larger multinational firms. The study will address this concept, in addition to providing insights to the rationale of companies considering this as part of their outsource planning.
Qualitative and quantitative data will be gathered through a series of confidential in-depth interviews with top management representatives from across the packaging graphic supply chain. Companies of all sizes will be part of the interview pool, thereby, generating valuable insights for any company considering an outsource option. Both business and technical concerns will be addressed and a roadmap will be offered to those considering an outsourcing strategy.
Companies interested in participating confidentially in this study are urged to contact Karstedt Associates by June 15, 2008 at 716-992-2017 or kevin@karstedt.com. All inquires and participation in the study will be held in the strictest confidence.
