ISRA VISION To Demonstrate SMASH Print Inspection System at CMM International
DULUTH, Ga—ISRA VISION will demonstrate its high-speed, print inspection system based on ISRA’s unique SMASH WEB PROCESSOR technology at CMM International 2007 in Rosemont, Ill. The 100 percent print inspection system is acomprehensive tool for monitoring and optimizing production processes in high-end printing industry applications
Unprecedented resolution at high speeds provides reliable defect detection and classification capabilities. The scalable system design offers superior image quality for any web width and provides printers with a solution for pre-press, on-press, and post press converting of label, package, sheet, or blank printed stock.
Inspection in the press provides immediate notification upon spontaneous, repeating, and continuous defects alike, such as spots, haze and streaks; early trend indication provides the printer with necessary information to reduce waste to a minimum. Selectable defect types are mapped and flagged.
The print inspection system provides crisp images of each defect as well as the location of the defect in each repeat plus the full documentation of the production history. ISRA’s sophisticated image processing algorithms for surface inspection allow for reliable inspection even with web stretches or wanders.
Using the strong computational power of the ISRA SMASH WEB PROCESSOR and advanced software modules, these systems correct for lateral shift of the repeats and distortions introduced by position variations and transporting inaccuracies present in any web-fed production process, guaranteeing that product orientation, spacing, stretch, and web-wandering do not interfere with the reliable detection of small defects. The inspection results are stored in the integrated SQL database for easy review and control of the re-wind operation.
Color cameras enable color trending and detection of color defects, however, if color deviations are of no importance, cost effective black-and-white cameras can be offered as well .The flexible and scalable architecture even allows for setups, where multiple camera banks provide simultaneous sights onto the web, thus allowing to combine additional tasks such as the simultaneous inspection of double-sided print or additional applications such as lacquers or cold seal coatings on the same system. A graphical user interface allows product changeover in seconds. Integrated real-time views provide simultaneous web viewing at several locations of the print repeat.
