Goss Rolls out the Sunday Vpak 500 and 3000
The new Sunday Vpak from Goss International is a variable-sleeve web offset press designed from the ground up for flexible packaging, folding carton, label and pre-print producers. Available in seven widths, the Vpak 500 and 3000 models feature quick-change plate and blanket cylinder sleeves, gapless blankets, the same inking, dampening, and control systems that deliver consistent quality on the larger Sunday presses, and put down a 200 lpi line screen with stochastic screening. Imagine! Print Solutions Expands its Fleet
Imagine! Express Minneapolis, a division of Imagine! Print Solutions, has expanded its fleet of presses with its eighth KBA press, a 41-inch Rapida 105. The commercial and packaging printing company provides folding carton design, one- to ten-color flexography, and carton converting. Formerly known as DigiGraphics, “Imagine! has experienced sales growth of over 200 percent,” says president and founder Bob Lothenbach. “To continue that success and better align with customers and prospects, we’ve added commercial printing and direct mail capabilities to our lineup of equipment and services.”
Amcor Takes Home a WorldStar Award
StayClean packaging, an innovative packaging concept from Amcor Flexibles for the medical and pharmaceutical industry, has earned the company a WorldStar award at the World Packaging Organization 2015 competition. The StayClean flexible overwrap is made without components that could transfer through to the product. The competition was judged by representatives from 17 packaging associations and members of the WPO. Some 264 packaging projects were submitted from 37 countries.
Metallic Film From FLEXcon
FLEXcon has released DPM U-150 Silver V-29 150 Poly H-9, the latest addition to its DPM series of pressure-sensitive films created for durable product marking. The film provides a metallic appearance for high-end durable labels, die-cut labels, and decals. According to FLEXcon, the new film can conform to very tight mandrel surfaces, wrap around corners, and can endure an outdoor environment for up to five years.
Tight Registration Required
The 3600 Series digital color press from Colordyne Technologies offers a 1600 x 1375 resolution with 4-colors plus a spot color at speeds of 225 fpm. The modular CDT 3600 press can be configured with multiple processes, many of which may require a web guide. For example, the AccuWeb EVO 150 web guide controller integrates a single user interface system capable of controlling multiple web guides for processes such as integrated laser diecutting. A switch-pad or touch-screen interface can be used to fine-tune web guide performance.
Smaller Footprint Diecutting From Rotoflex
The Rotoflex DSI diecutting platform is now available in a smaller footprint machine, increasing its speed and responsiveness to current production requirements. The platform incorporates servo drives and the power cabinet has been reduced in size. Independently driven servo drives are controlled by the Rotoflex URC 2.0 control system and manage the unwind, diecut, matrix and rewinds.
Romaco Expands to Garden State
Romaco Group, a global tableting and packaging technologies supplier, has opened its North American headquarters in Hamilton, New Jersey. The new facility will serve as a base for sales, customer service, spare parts, rebuilds, pre-installation inspection and line integration for the tableting and packaging industry.
Five in a Row for Green Bay Packaging
Green Bay Packaging earned its fifth consecutive Green Master award from the Wisconsin Sustainable Business Council. The company produces 100 percent post-consumer recycled paper, corrugated shipping containers, pressure-sensitive label stock, and folding cartons. To be considered a Green Master, a company must perform commendable actions in nine sustainability categories, including energy, water, waste, and social actions. It must also score in the top 20 percent of all participating companies. “Green Bay Packaging has shown remarkable progress every single year, and continue to be one of our highest scoring companies across each of the nine sustainability categories,” said Thomas Eggert, executive director of the Wisconsin Sustainable Business Council.
X-Rite Announces New Pantone Certified Program
X-Rite has rolled out the latest edition of the Pantone Certified Printer Program for packaging converters and commercial printers. The updated program addresses new industry standards including preflight, file preparation, proofing, ink formulation and mixing, plus process control in the pressroom. According to Pantone, the program includes a quarterly color check based on a standard set of files, resulting in more consistent quality with less rework while using existing investments and people.
CTI Offers a Theater-in-the-hand Experience
Following on the heels of the launch of Sunlight Inks for labels in August 2014, Chromatic Technologies has announced its photochromic inks—they change their appearance when hit by sunlight—will now be available for use with cans. Patrick Edson, CMO of CTI, says the inks are perfect for beverages being consumed outdoors during summer months, creating a ‘theater-in-the-hand’ experience. “Our goal is for every can in the world to be interactive with consumers and dramatize a brand’s positioning.”
Maxcess Acquires Fives North American Guiding Systems
Fives North American Guiding Systems, a provider of web and strip guiding, web spreading, and width measurement solutions, has been acquired by Maxcess International. Maxcess, a product and service provider for the web handling industry, will integrate Fives with its Fife Guiding Systems operation. “Acquiring Fives provides Maxcess with an immediate extension of our guiding product range,” said Greg Jehlik, CEO of Maxcess. “Our focus is on expansion through organic growth, targeted product development and acquisition.” pP
