Impressions Inc. Offers Alternative to Spot Colors
ST. PAUL, Minn.—Impressions Incorporated launches new spotfree™ printing technology. spotfree™ expands the color gamut beyond traditional four-color process by allowing for color builds of five, six, or seven colors. The increased gamut allows for more vivid images and eliminates the need for spot colors, all at a potential cost savings.
As President Mike Jorgensen states, “spotfree is the only print technology of its kind that virtually eliminates the need for spot colors.” Proprietary computer software is used to read the color values of a PMS (Pantone Matching System) color, and spotfree™ then builds a similar color using a mix of the seven colors available (cyan, magenta, yellow, black, orange, green, and violet). The elimination of spot colors is particularly useful in the private label industry where packaging efficiency is increased with the ability to combine multiple items on the same press sheet, reducing the need for multiple set ups.
In addition to eliminating the need for spot colors, spotfree™ can enhance a product’s shelf presence. The additional colors available with spotfree™ (as seen in the Expanded Color Gamut Comparison) allow images and vector drawings originally created in 4-color process to be more vibrant and eye-catching against the competition. spotfree™ printing technology is a cost-effective way to expand a brand’s packaging presence.
