For 100 years, Mr. Peanut has remained largely unchanged, gracing Planters' nuts packaging with his trademark top hat, monocle and cane. While Planters' iconic mascot has been a symbol of consistency for a century, thanks to help from HP, Planters' dry roasted peanuts packaging will hit retail shelves with three million unique packaging designs.
According to a press release from HP, the labels were printed on HP Indigo digital presses and incorporated HP SmartStream Mosaic software to make each one unique. The labels were printed on 50-micron PETg film.
"Increased competition, multiple SKUs and consumers with high expectations are causing brands to reassess their product packaging to boost sales," Doris Brown-McNally, worldwide strategic business and brand development, HP, said in the release. "HP Indigo printing and HP SmartStream Mosaic technologies enable classic brands, like Planters, to reinvent their traditional packaging to drive maximum impact and create unique brand experiences for customers with minimal risk."
The labels are affixed to Planters jars and will be available throughout the Mr. Peanut 100th birthday celebration.
