As the year comes to a close, one of our longest-standing traditions here at NAPCO Media is the publishing of the annual Printing Impressions 400, a ranking of the top 400 printing companies in the United States and Canada ranked by sales volume. It’s a monumental task for our colleagues at Printing Impressions to compile and publish this list, but it remains an essential resource and reference point for the industry — even in its 36th year of publication.
As has been the case in recent years, package printers, demonstrating the strength of packaging within the print industry, heavily populate the top of the list. Digitization has continued to impact the various commercial segments, but unlike brochures, documents, and forms, product packaging is something that cannot be replaced by the internet. With growth in demand across the four main packaging segments, printers from outside the packaging space have taken notice, adding packaging capabilities (among other high-margin print opportunities) to their repertoire.
Writes Printing Impressions Editor-in-Chief Mark Michelson:
With fewer true general commercial printers, businesses are expanding their footprints into new, high-margin offerings like wide-format digital output and even fabrication; multiple types of packaging; creative, e-commerce, and customized storefront services; as well as expanded promotional product offerings.
Below is this year’s list of the top 10 package printers within the 2019 PI 400. Be sure to check out the entire listing here for a full snapshot of the printing industry in 2019.
