If there's a lesson to be learned from last year's packagePRINTING Excellence Awards, it's that it pays to try something new.
In addition to selecting winning entries in categories that span all packaging segments and printing methods, our judging panel must also choose from more than 200 label, folding carton, flexible packaging and corrugated entries to crown a Best of Show. It's a tall task to stand out from such diverse competition, but it's the innovative entries that seem to rise to the top.
Beyond its holographic elements, foiling and a raised varnish, the “Girls’ Night Out” chardonnay wine labels printed by ASL Print FX amazed the judges with stunning flexographic printing featuring three different repeating images. ASL Print FX created its own process in house to achieve this feat of flexo printing, helping it earn Best of Show.
Showcasing the diversity of the Excellence Awards, the Best of Show runner up was a digitally printed corrugated display. Bennett wowed the judges with its Welch’s grape juice display featuring pristine direct, digitally printed graphics, despite the relative infancy of this printing technology.
