Hammer Packaging’s Turan in LPIA Hall of Fame
PITTSBURGH, Pa.—The Label Printing Industries of America (LPIA) has announced that John “Jack” Turan, Team Leader, Hammer Packaging Corporation, Rochester, N.Y., is the 10th inductee into the LPIA Hall of Fame. Turan was inducted during the November 2010 Fall Management Conference in Phoenix, Arizona.
Turan, a native of Rochester, started his career in graphic communications in the mid-1970s, joining Stecher/Traung/Schmidt in the Customer Service Department before moving to the Sales Department. Turan joined Hammer Lithograph in 1980 in a manufacturing and sales role. At that time, Hammer purchased its first 5-color (used) press, and Turan holds the distinction of selling the first job printed on this press.
In 1985 Turan left Hammer to start his own business in the seafood industry by opening a retail fish store. In 1987 he was rehired by Hammer to serve as sales manager during a time when the company was undergoing substantial investments in new equipment and aggressive sales growth. In 1991 he was promoted to vice president, national sales manager and then vice president, national accounts. In 2005 Turan became team leader of Hammer’s flexo operation where he continues to serve today.
Turan is a graduate of Ithaca College with a Bachelor of Science Degree. He has served on association committees and in leadership roles as the Chairman of the Board for LPIA from 2002 to 2004.
The LPIA Hall of Fame is conferred to that converting executive who has reached an unsurpassed level of excellence and achievement in the industry.
