GIDUE Launches Food Packaging Program for UV Flexo

Nuova GIDUE S.r.l. will unveil its Food Packaging Program for UV Flexo at Labelexpo Europe. This program has been developed to support label converters in their introduction to the flexible packaging industry.

The Food Packaging Program for UV Flexo developed by GIDUE reduces the need of “entry” legal and laboratory costs for food acceptance certifications. It also increases the overall converting productivity with an “all-in-one-pass” printing and laminating process (over 70 percent of food packaging is laminated). The new Master™ SL 630 solventless laminator has been developed focusing on short set-up times, automated operations, quick change of the lamination roller, servo-driven bi-component mixing, and semi-automated linear pre-web guide to enhance the in-line productivity of the Master M5 630 Digital Flexo press.

“It could take some time, but the combination of the Master M5 630 UV flexo press in-line with the Master SL 630 solventless laminator is a serious opportunity for label converters looking at new areas of growth,” says Federico d’Annunzio, MD of GIDUE. “Label converters could be one step ahead of competitors by entering the flexible packaging industry, and introducing the narrow web established culture of short-runs efficiency, high print quality, and creativity.”

D’Annunzio also announced that a major label converter in Italy installed a Master M5 630 Digital Flexo press, in-line with a new development from GIDUE, the Master SL 630 Solvent-Less Laminator and that it could have major implications for the packaging industry.

“The combination of UV Flexo and in-line solvent-less lamination is potentially revolutionary for the flexible packaging market,” he says. “Our solution avoids any contact of UV inks with the reel (and with the food), by ‘protecting’ the UV-printed surface with a laminated film before rewinding. The risk of UV ink migration is virtually eliminated. In particular, label converters familiar with UV flexo technology for several years, could enter the lucrative short-runs flexible packaging market, with a limited learning curve, providing excellent UV flexo print quality.”

GIDUE will present live demonstrations at Labelexpo, Hall 12, Booth 100-110 of three of its new flexographic press lines (Combat™ M1, Combat™ M3, Master™ M5) and one platform with offset modules (Xpannd™ M7) for the labels and packaging industry.
