FVTC Updates Narrow Web Pressrom Technology
APPLETON, Wis.—In its commitment to providing exemplary graphic arts/printing education and training for the flexographic printing industry, Fox Valley Technical College in Appleton, WI, recently updated its narrow web pressroom technology by replacing its 7-inch Comco Cadet with a new six-color, 7-inch Mark Andy 2200. The upgrade
was made possible because of the partnership the college has with Mark Andy.
"This new press is a tremendous addition to our already world-class facility," said Gary Kilgas, dean of FVTC's Graphic Arts Division. "The press allows our students to gain the skills necessary to be successful in the industry today and into the future."
According to FVTC instructor Jim Reinke, "this new press allows our Package and Label Printing program to stay current for students, helping them advance their technical and educational experiences."
FVTC has unparalleled printing equipment all housed in one facility, where it delivers training on narrow web, wide web and corrugated, Kilgas noted. The college's Package and Label Printing Department is a comprehensive laboratory dedicated to the dissemination of flexographic printing technology.
"We feel there is no better place than FVTC to learn narrow web printing applications," said John Cavey, manager of Contract Administration for Mark Andy. "We have been partnering with FVTC for nearly 30 years and value that relationship. We look forward to the future, together, and what we can provide for students to prepare them for the industry."
In addition to its instructional programs, FVTC's Package and Label Printing Department offers technical assistance, research and in-house training programs customized to meet the needs of narrow web, wide web and corrugated production as well as seminars and workshops.
The Packaging and Label Printing Education and Research Center at FVTC is a state-of-the-art facility that provides the flexographic industry with a neutral location for conducting printing trials and testing technical advances in flexo printing. FVTC staff are available to work with converters and suppliers in all aspects of flexography from design of test patterning, to plate making, to the actual press run.
A number of companies have stepped forward with donations to assist the college with the installation of the new press. Rotometrics Group supplied all of the tooling. Anilox inventories were donated by Praxair and Harper Corporation.
Akzo Nobel continues to donate to FVTC's water base and u.v. inks and coatings. Other ink companies that support FVTC's flexo programs include INX International Ink Company, Flint Ink, and Sun Chemical Corporation.
