Flextec Reinforces Commitment to Quality With Digital GMI Certification
Flextec Corporation’s mission has always been to provide “Quality First Without Compromise,” and its recent achievement of full digital certification from Graphic Measures International (GMI), has reinforced that mission even further.
As one of the earliest adopters of the HP Indigo 8000 digital press, Rocky Rahija, president and CEO of Flextec, explained that it was important for Flextec to achieve GMI certification on the digital press to ensure its customers that their jobs would be produced at exceptionally high quality. GMI certification ensures that a printer is maintaining strong process controls and can produce consistent results.
“It’s a vote of confidence for our customers to know that we pay close attention to their requirements and to our mission of, ‘Quality First Without Compromise,’” Rahija said. “That’s our mission and it always has been.”
The certification was completed on November 21st, making Flextec GMI certified in both its conventional and digital printing equipment. Rahija explains that Flextec has consistently achieved high scores on its conventional press test prints and is one of seven high performance printers in the US market.
Achieving certification on the HP Indigo 8000 digital press was a different process however, due to the press’s ability to monitor the print via a spectrodensitometer and make adjustments accordingly. But by developing process controls to ensure repeatability on the digital equipment, Rahija said customers can expect the same high levels of consistency on digitally printed jobs as conventionally printed output.
“The certification provides us with the ability to put our customers’ minds at ease that we can produce brand equity for our customers on the HP Indigo 8000,” he said.
Flextec’s success in color management is achieved through aligning grey scale, L*a*b* values and Delta E measurements, along with calibration of prepress software, proofing systems and converting equipment. Since becoming GMI certified, Flextec has eliminated nearly all of its sales returns, and any sales returns that did occur were unrelated to color.
“We welcomed the opportunity to coordinate and align our digital SOP’s with the same checks and balances accomplished through our conventional certification,” Rahija said. “This is certainly an important accomplishment in delivering an important message of confidence to our brand owners through proven performance.”
