FineEye Color Solutions Donates Color Quality System to RIT

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.—FineEye Color Solutions has donated and installed ICEserver, a color quality optimization system, at the Printing Applications Laboratory at Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) in Rochester, N.Y. According to FineEye, ICEserver processes PDF files before imaging and can significantly reduce manufacturing costs, while increasing the visual appeal of web and sheetfed offset printing.

“We recognize that the next generation of industry leaders is today’s students at RIT, and other leading colleges and universities with printing and graphics communications programs,” said John Sweeney, vice president of business development at Fine Eye. “FineEye is committed to providing the latest technology to enhance these programs. We are excited to partner with RIT, the first in our new Education Outreach Program that will be rolled out to the top schools in North America in 2010.”

ICEserver is now available in two versions. ICEserver “Standard” separations are aimed at visually and colorometrically matching SWOP, SNAP, and GRACoL print conditions. ICEserver “Expanded” separations are aimed at visually increasing the color gamut, dynamic range, and contrast, while providing increased efficiencies in print production. The ICEserver “Expanded” option allows print providers to offer their customers choices of G7 Compliance—G7 (Color Space) or G7 Extreme, as an example.

“We applied the ICEserver to a recent issue of our weekly student-run magazine, Reporter. The results were excellent,” said Bill Garno, director, Printing Applications Laboratory at RIT. “ICEserver is a great example of how innovative technology continues to maintain the relevance and viability of print. We’re very happy to have this new tool available to our students for their academic and research activities.”
