An undetected defect or error in a print run can be an embarrassing predicament for your company and customer — and also a costly one. Implementing an inspection system such as an inspection rewinder or video inspection device provides that last line of defense for catching errors before a job is shipped.
Slitter rewinders also provide a winding procedure, but a much different result. These machines provide an easy method of separating a web into separate rolls for ease of handling, shipping and application of labels.
We reached out to some leading companies from around the industry to learn more about their inspection and rewind products.

Schenk’s EasyInspect and EasyMeasure
The Schenk Vision MIDA technology (Multiple Image Defect Analysis) catches all base film defects, coating defects and provides monitoring of the homogeneity of the material with a single camera row, but multiple optical channels. This allows users to use one inspection system that inspects various kinds of base, coated, metallized and converted film products at a slitter or rewinder at highest speed. -www.drschenk.com
Automation adds to Efficiency
By combining QuadTech’s Inspection System, Data Central, and Waste Management System, users can gain automated and informed control over a rewinder. This practice can increase a rewinder’s efficiency by 30 percent by running through known good sections at full speed, and not stopping unnecessarily or backing up to remove defects. —www.quadtechworld.com
